Raindrops of My Heart

My soul weeps like a willow

bending but never breaking,

hanging on to hope.

Roaring loud as thunder,

burdens begin to fall

plethora of tears storm.

Slowly suffocating,

all of me is drowning

in the raindrops of my heart.

Haiku A Day – fight

fight settles, now she’s
sitting quietly— it’s the
calm before the storm

Oldest and Youngest

This cherished photo is of my son at 2 months old, held by his great-great-grandfather on his 102 birthday. They represented our youngest and oldest family members at the time.

Black Cloud

Strong winds blow,

door rattles, the sound

crushing my comfort,

in repose, eyes wide open.

Quiet storm hiding

within this cloud,

suddenly thunder claps

shaking the foundation.

Flash of lightning…CLACK!

Rumbling resounds againBOOM!

Another strike, and again

never the same place twice.

Fearful tears, stomach

turned upside down

seeking refuge, patiently

awaiting the calm.

Sounds of peace a lie,

gullible, I emerge.

(thunder)…BOOM! (lightning)…CLACK!

Darkness monopolized the night.

Her Courage Matters (Décima)

Family doomed right from the start

Plain and simple, Dad likes to roam

Pain he causes pervades the home

And Mom contains her broken heart

Safety denied, she plays it smart

Tried to escape his angry scorn

Long before a third child was born

But now the coast and skies are clear

With turbo speed, they flee in fear

Reaching the runway plane next morn

Not every woman’s story can be told, so for this day in Women’s History Month I’m recognizing those whose plight remains unknown but their strength and courage is empowering.
