Change Of Life (Décima)

Brain on pause, memory cloudy

Running on fumes, sleep’s a fortune

Flashing heat, extreme exhaustion

Erratic moods, cheerful, pouty

Mild temper erupts to rowdy

Focus shattered, thoughts all wander

Energy? None left to squander

Productive days get disrupted

Concentration interrupted

The Change” anguish—facts to ponder

What Had Happened Was…

Penalty for breaking curfew was harsh and since Bobby rode his bike way out to shore, he had to hurry home or chance getting in deep trouble. He picked up his green duffle bag full of books and schoolwork, leaving very little space for anything else, then sped off not realizing he’d dropped a shoe. Unfortunately, Bobby was delayed by an accident involving a behemoth truck blocking street access, and when he arrived home his naturally genial mom was none too pleased with him.

Respect and Love For My Elders

A few months ago one of our fellow bloggers provided a link to Love For Our Elders, a non-profit organization of volunteers who collect and deliver handcrafted letters and cards to the senior community. I loved their mission so much, I could hear this orotund voice in me saying “SIGN UP NOW!” and I quickly became a “Kindness Ambassador.” I’m so excited my first batch of cards are finally en route. Unfortunately, I only took one picture and it shows only a partial front view of one card and the ornate envelopes for the others.

It wasn’t looking too good for me in the beginning because my creative mind far exceeded my elementary artistic skills, but when it was all said and done I was pretty proud of myself. However, while working on my fourth card I began getting frustrated over a few failed drawings and decided to print out part of it. Hence the perfect sun, rainbow and trees. At least I was able to personalize it with beautiful yellow, powder blue and green colors and several unique butterflies.

This isn’t an attempt at penance for any past wrongdoing but hopefully I’ve earned a stamp in my passport to heaven. 😆

Uneventful Vacation

When we arrived at the vacation house we were shocked to see white leather sofas and curtains made of lace. The home was in pristine condition! We knew that wasn’t sustainable, with our family having children of varying ages running around. Unfortunately, the tiny backyard had no room for a bounce house. There was a beach nearby but as our luck would have it, there were sharks in the water. I thought being there would spark creativity for my blog but I was overcome by dysania every morning.

Her Courage Matters (Décima)

Family doomed right from the start

Plain and simple, Dad likes to roam

Pain he causes pervades the home

And Mom contains her broken heart

Safety denied, she plays it smart

Tried to escape his angry scorn

Long before a third child was born

But now the coast and skies are clear

With turbo speed, they flee in fear

Reaching the runway plane next morn

Not every woman’s story can be told, so for this day in Women’s History Month I’m recognizing those whose plight remains unknown but their strength and courage is empowering.
