Running late today
Looking for a shortcut
Seldom do I travel this way.
I see a familiar face
But in an unfamiliar place
With another unfamiliar face
Filling a familiar space.
My eyes open wide
So much of the unexpected
Is it really you I see?
Undermining all we are
Quickly becoming what we were
Love turns to hate in a moment
Such deception bankrupting my trust.
Tick…and then nothing
Who, how, and why!
Tock…sounds so loud
I’m going out of my mind.
What’s my next move?
So many questions
Stealth movement in my footsteps
Yet my silence is so loud.
You turn and look at me
Bet you didn’t see this coming
Your face says it all
Surprise, fear, guilt,
Save your lies
A shame you’re such a fool.
You try but there’s no escaping
I found my shortcut
To the end
Of this thing you called love

I felt I was there, watching this unfold. Such a sorrowful tale. Great writing to the prompt!
